Casey’s go-ahead single lifts Mill Rats over Kings

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – With the game tied at 3 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Johnstown center fielder Jake Casey plated two runs with a single to right field to give the Mill Rats a 5-3 victory over the Champion City Kings in Prospect League action on Sunday.

The Mill Rats rallied with four runs in the eighth inning to take the lead after trailing 3-1. After Sam Mast and Pete Capobianco walked to leadoff the bottom of the eighth, Andrew Kribbs singled in a run to cut the deficit to one. Johnstown drew another walk to load the bases with one out, then Mack Higuchi evened the score with a
sacrifice fly.

With two outs, Casey followed with a two-run single between first and second to put the Mill Rats in front. Trey Shulz retired the Kings in order in the top of the ninth to earn the save.

Casey and Kribbs each tallied two hits and two RBIs for the Mill Rats. Kribbs’ second RBI came on an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth that gave Johnstown a 1-0 lead. Champion City answered with three runs in the top of the sixth with Patrick Fultz and Nick Dolan recording run-scoring hits and J.R. Heavilin crossing the plate on
an error.

Dolan, Fultz and Jonah Sutton each recorded two hits to lead the Kings. Charlie Schafer took the loss on the mound. Sean Furlong earned the win in relief for the Mill Rats.

Johnstown (3-1) will travel to face Champion City (1-3) at 6:35 p.m. Monday night.
