Paints claim doubleheader sweep over Mill Rats

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Chillicothe Paints earned both wins of a doubleheader against the Johnstown Mill Rats on Saturday evening, taking Game 1 by a score of 8-1 before following with a 7-4 win in Game 2 in Prospect League action.

Chillicothe tallied runs in six of Game 1’s seven innings to pull away quickly. The Paints led 5-0 going to the bottom of the third before scoring in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Dylan Taliaferro threw six innings for the Paints, allowing three hits and one unearned run while striking out four and walking two. Mill Rats starter Brennan Murphy took the loss after going just three frames.

Asher Corl tallied two of the three Mill Rats hits, going 2-for-2 with a double and scoring the lone run. Nolan Buegeling tallied the RBI.

In Game 2, the Paints scored seven runs in the top of the third, and that was all the offense Chillicothe would need.

The Mill Rats opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first on a Randy Carlo single and an Andrew Kribbs groundout. After the Paints’ marathon inning, Johnstown tallied single runs in the fourth and seventh innings.

Joe Alcorn led the Mill Rats offensively, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Kribbs tripled and drove in a run. JD Greeley threw four scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit while striking out nine of the 12 batters he faced.
