Paints complete sweep of Mill Rats with 6-1 victory

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Chillicothe Paints finished off a four-game sweep over the Johnstown Mill Rats with a 6-1 victory on Sunday afternoon in a Prospect League matchup.

The Paints had another strong game offensively, out-hitting the Mill Rats 14-3. Mike Sprockett and Ben Gbur both topped Chillicothe with three hits and two RBIs apiece, while Jeron Williams, Nate Dorinsky and Josh McAlister each recorded two hits. 

Joe Alcorn, Sam Mast and DJ Alexander all singled for Johnstown’s three hits. Alcorn scored the lone Mill Rats’ run after coming home from third on a balk in the bottom of the fourth.

Sebastian Escobar claimed the win on the mound for the Paints after throwing seven innings, allowing one run on three hits while walking one and striking out nine. Cruz McFadden threw two scoreless innings of relief. Johnstown’s Andrew Kribbs took the loss. 

Chillicothe opened the game by scoring three runs in the top of the first and added another tally in the second to lead 4-0 before Alcorn crossed the plate. The Paints then scored single runs in the sixth and seventh to set the final.

Johnstown (4-8) has an off day on Monday before traveling to Springfield, Ohio, to face Champion City on Tuesday.
