Dans outlast Mill Rats to finish off sweep

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Danville Dans completed a two-game sweep of the Johnstown Mill Rats by utilizing another fast start to claim a 13-10 victory on Sunday afternoon in Prospect League action.

After the Mill Rats grabbed an early 2-0 lead after one inning, the Dans tallied nine runs – four in the second and five in the third – to take the advantage and never looked back. 

The Dans’ lead got as high as 11-3 after the top of the fourth. Johnstown answered right back with five runs to trim the deficit to three runs, but did not get any closer.

Both teams scored two runs in the eighth inning to set the eventual final.

The Dans pounded out 18 hits, with seven players recording multiple base knocks. Drake DiGiorno and Wesley Helms each tallied three hits. Bryce Chance scored three runs. Will Carpenter homered, tripled and had two RBIs.

For Johnstown, Sam Mast finished a home run short of the cycle after going 4-for-5 with a triple, double, two runs scored and an RBI. Justin Kapuscinski was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. DJ Alexander doubled and drove in three runs.

Colby Downard claimed the win on the mound for the Dans after throwing 3 ⅔ innings of relief. Johnstown starter Andrew Kribbs was given the loss after surrendering nine runs over three innings. The Mill Rats were greatly hindered by their three errors, as of the 13 Danville runs, only six were earned.

Johnstown (7-11) hosts the Terre Haute Rex in its next contest on Tuesday at  7 p.m.
