JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – A 19-hit performance by the Terre Haute offense helped the Rex cruise to a 14-1 victory in eight innings over the Johnstown Mill Rats in Wednesday’s Prospect League matchup.
Eight of the nine batters in the Terre Haute lineup recorded at least one hit, with six players tallying multiple base knocks. Mason White went 4-for-6 with three RBIs and two runs scored. David Miller posted all three of Terre Haute’s extra-base hits, finishing a single short of the cycle going 3-for-5 with a home run, triple, double and four RBIs.
Miller also scored two runs. Jordan Schaffer and Jake Larson both joined Miller with three hits.
Defensively, the Rex held the Mill Rats to one run for the second consecutive game. Devin Ecklar claimed the win on the mound for Terre Haute after throwing seven innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out 11. He did not issue a walk.
Ecklar’s lone blemish came in the bottom of the second when Justin Kapuscinski hit a solo home run that cut Terre Haute’s then-lead to 3-1. The Rex followed by scoring 11 unanswered runs, highlighted by scoring five times in both the fifth and eighth innings.
Josh Cottrill took the loss for the Mill Rats after allowing five runs on nine hits over four innings. He struck out four.
Johnstown (7-13) will look to end its four-game losing streak when the Mill Rats begin a four-game road trip in Chillicothe on Thursday night.
