The Mill Rats are pleased to announce the launch of Read Around the Bases, a program which is designed to give teachers a tool – Mill Rats tickets – they can use to reward students who accomplish their reading goals.
Individual teachers determine the reading goals for their students and the time frame of the program. The Mill Rats will provide a pair of tickets to each student who accomplishes their goals as determined by the teacher. The tickets may be used for Read Around the Bases Nights during the Mill Rats 2023 season.
The Mill Rats are supporting the program by team personnel reading to students and mascot appearances at schools. The Mill Rats will also provide bookmarks to all interested schools. Participation in Read Around the Bases is open to all elementary and middle schools within the Greater Johnstown Area. To participate, teachers and school leaders can reach out to the Mill Rats via reading@millrats.com. The Mill Rats will also be reaching out and inviting schools to participate.
“This program gives the Mill Rats an opportunity to use their profile as a way to highlight the importance of literacy to students,” said Mill Rats spokesperson Lisa Downey. “We hope that schools not only from Johnstown will take advantage of this opportunity, but educators throughout the extended region will participate.”
On Reading Around the Bases Nights at The Point, students who attend will be invited on the field for a pre–game ceremony and the participating schools recognized on the videoboard.
