Mill Rats win back and forth contest over Miners

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Johnstown Mill Rats claimed their fourth consecutive victory with a 5-4 win over the West Virginia Miners In a Prospect League matchup on Wednesday night.
In a contest with five lead changes, the Mill Rats grabbed the final runs of the game on a two-run home run by Sam Mast in the bottom of the sixth. All of the game’s runs were scored between the fourth and sixth innings.
The Miners threatened in the top of the ninth, getting two runners in scoring position with one out. However, Johnstown reliever Sean Furlong struck out the next two batters to close the game, giving Furlong his second save of the season after throwing two scoreless innings.
Will Knight improved his record to 4-1 after earning the win in relief. He allowed one run on two hits over 1 ⅔ innings while walking and striking out one batter.
Jake Casey and Damian Yenzi each went 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Mill Rats offensively. Randy Carlo IV hit a two-run triple.
Johnstown (17-21, 5-2) hosts West Virginia at 7 p.m. Thursday to close out the teams’ two-game series.
