The Johnstown Mill Rats earned their first shutout win of the season and snapped their 5-game losing streak with a 9-0 shutout over the Jackson Rockabillys Thursday at Sargent’s Stadium at The Point. It was the first-ever meeting between the teams.
Johnstown scored once in the second and again in the third to take an early 2-0 lead. The Mill Rats then erupted for five runs in the fifth, sending nine batters to the plate. Johnstown added a pair of runs in the eighth to set the final at 9-0.
Johnstown’s Mark Wechtenhiser (1-4) picked up his first win of the season tossing six innings without giving up a run while allowing six hits, striking out four, and walking none.
Jackson’s Chase Armstrong took the loss dropping to 1-4. Armstrong pitched four innings and gave up seven runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
At the plate, the Rats exploded for 13 hits. Cooper Rasmussen was a perfect 3-for-3 while Gustavo Gonzalez, Zach McEllroy, and Tyler Giordano knocked two hits each.
The Rats raised their second-half record to 7-15 with seven regular season games remaining.
Jackson’s record fell to 7-14.
The Mill Rats close out the home portion of the 2025 schedule against Jackson Friday at 7:00pm.
